Description:
The Moillard-Grivot winery has its roots in the 19th century. In 1848, Symphorien Moillard married Marguerite Grivot, the owner of a winery, and the Moillard-Grivot house was created. Even before the French Revolution, the Moillard family owned vineyards in Nuits-Saint-Georges.
In 1850, Symphorien Moillard met a Belgian notary who was enthusiastic about the wines and wanted to distribute them in Belgium. This marked the beginning of the house's commercial activity and led to an expansion of the distribution network.
Over time, both the Moillard and Grivot families evolved. Today, both names exist independently in the wine world. Moillard is known as a major winery and trading house in Nuits-Saint-Georges, while the Grivot family runs the renowned Domaine Jean Grivot in Vosne-Romanée.
The exact details and timing of the separation of the two family businesses are not fully documented. However, it is common in Burgundy for family wineries to go their separate ways over the generations and become independent wineries.
