Description:
As a sommelier, I appreciate Jérome Prévost and his house La Closerie for his unique personality and unmistakable style. Prévost is one of the few winemakers in Champagne who practices biodynamic farming and works with minimal intervention. His vineyard in the Montagne de Reims covers only 2.2 hectares and he produces only about 3,000 bottles per year.
His Les Beguines is made from almost 100% Pinot Meunier, an often overlooked grape variety in Champagne. The wine is aged in oak barrels and undergoes a long lees ageing period, giving it unparalleled depth and complexity. The aromas are dominated by ripe fruits such as peach and apricot, complemented by hints of brioche and spices. On the palate, the champagne is amazingly balanced and has a refreshing acidity supported by a subtle minerality.
La Closerie is an exceptional champagne and shows how much the terroir and the winemaker's working methods can shape the character of a wine. As a sommelier, I recommend this champagne for special occasions or as an accompaniment to fine food in order to enjoy the full spectrum of its aromas and nuances.
